Open Box: Meta Quest 3

So, my Meta Quest 3 is finally here, and let’s just say it’s making a pretty solid case for VR as more than just a fad. Powered by the new Snapdragon XR2+ chip, this thing has way more juice than its predecessors. And with upgraded high-res displays, it’s like strapping a mini-IMAX to your face. Plus, it’s got full-color passthrough, so you can see the real world while you’re in VR. Now you can wander around your house in a zombie shooter without knocking over your favorite lamp. Progress!

The controllers are new and improved—Meta ditched those big tracking rings, so they feel more streamlined. They’re also super responsive, with haptic feedback that makes the experience feel a bit more immersive. The downside? Battery life is about two hours, so just when you’re fully immersed, you’ll probably have to plug it in. Perfect for when you need to come back to reality anyway.

Now, let’s talk games. Meta’s been working to beef up the game library, and it shows. There are some killer titles on there, but be prepared for a mixed bag—some games will blow your mind, while others feel like they were coded in a weekend. And VR is still VR, so if you’re prone to motion sickness, stock up on ginger ale and hope for the best. But hey, nothing like a little nausea to remind you you’re alive, right?

All in all, the Quest 3 is a solid upgrade. It’s pricier than its little brother, the Quest 2, but if you’re serious about VR, it’s worth it. Just be ready for the occasional headache, a low-battery alert at the worst possible time, and maybe a few laughs from friends as they watch you flail around like a futuristic mime. But hey, that’s VR for you.
